Autonomy, innovation and security: EU strategies for Aerospace and Defence - EU Clusters Talk, 17 April 2024

Novinka

The defence and aerospace ecosystem are changing in major ways, driven by the need to increase strategic autonomy and to adapt to the green and digital changes.

The European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the Transition Pathway for Aerospace show the European Union's ambitious plan to manage these changes. These initiatives are not just policy guidelines but crucial tools for stimulating innovation, ensuring the EU's role as a global technological pioneer, and protecting its environmental and digital futures.

EDIS seeks to strengthen the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, ensuring that the EU keeps a competitive advantage in defence capabilities while supporting collaborative R&D, stimulating innovation, and improving market efficiencies. At the same time, the Transition Pathway for Aerospace outlines a vision for a sustainable aerospace sector, highlighting decarbonisation, innovation in air mobility, and the upgrading of Air Traffic Management systems.

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organised the EU Clusters Talk “Autonomy, innovation and Security: EU Strategies for Aerospace and Defence” on 17 April, 8:30 – 9:45 CET. The aim was to present the European Defence Industrial Strategy and the Transition Pathway for Aerospace and discuss the implementation and industry activities with cluster representatives.

Speakers included:

  • Flavio Fusco, Technical Committee, Italian National Aerospace Technology Cluster (CTNA)
  • Goran Basarac, President, Croatian Defense Industry Competitiveness Cluster
  • Mélanie Durth, R&D Manager, Andalucia Aerospace Cluster
  • Niklas Schilling, Manager International Affairs, European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP)
